Reetz, Gene
Gene hiked and boated with John and Joanna McComb after meeting them in 1964 through the Southern Arizona Hiking Club. His hikes included the Hopi Salt Trail to Tanner hike that June! Gene and dozens of others added their names to a declaration of opposition to the Marble Canyon Dam. The declaration ran in the Tucson Daily Citizen newspaper. As a result of that article, Gene was asked to leave his graduate studies at the university of Arizona.    Transcript

Reilly, Susie (August 26, 1913 - April 20, 2001)
In this interview conducted April 19, 2000, Susie recounts her first river trip in 1947 on the San Juan River with her husband Plez Talmadge "Pat" Reilly and Norm Nevills. She reviews her Grand Canyon river trips in the 1950s and '60s, and her life with her husband Pat.          Transcript

Richards, Sheriff Joe (March 17, 1936 - February 6, 2025)
Born in 1936, Joe’s parents found work in 1942 at the Navajo Army Depot munitions plant. He grew up in Bellmont. In the Sheriff’s Department, Joe recounts working with the Park Service at Grand Canyon. He also recounts being on a motor-rig that flips in Lave Falls Rapid.   Transcript

Rotter, Franz (May 27, 1931 - November 10, 2015)
Franz was born in Bavaria in 1931. In 1954 he met his future wife Hanna, and he went through hotel management school in Lucerne. While there, he applied for a job at the Drake Hotel in Chicago. They hired him and he came to the US. Franz joined the US Army, married Hanna, got a job with Fred Harvey, did well with them, and was offered the South Rim General Manager job in the spring of 1969. Franz and Hanna would move to Tusayan and built the Canyon Plaza Resort.  Part 1 Transcript

Rotter, Hanna (September 15, 1933 - August 29, 2023)
Hanna was born near Heidelberg in 1933. In 1954 she met her future husband Franz and they were married in Schweinfurt, Germany when he was stationed there with the US Army. Their daughter Ann and son Frank were born in the 1960’s. The family moved to Grand Canyon in the spring of 1969. Franz and Hanna would move to Tusayan and built the Canyon Plaza Resort. This interview is not transcribed yet.
