A Hoosier born in 1947, John came to Arizona in 1966. In 1981 he paddled his kayak through Grand Canyon solo. In 1982 he kayaked the Little Colorado River Gorge solo, and he ran the Grand Canyon in 1983 on high. John formed the Northern Arizona Paddling Club. Susun recounts paddling her inflatable kayak from Lee's to Diamond Creek in 1989. John also talks to his forty years of Verde River advocacy. With a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Barbara worked at the Museum of Northern Arizona investigating the impacts of feral burros on vegetation and the impacts of humans on Colorado River beaches, backcountry trails, and river campsites in the Grand Canyon.
