Born in 1945, Allen grew up in Springfield, Ohio. He spent 4 years flying helicopters including a year in Vietnam, then finished college in Hotel and Restaurant Management. In his summers he worked in the kitchen at Grand Teton Lodge. Eventually Allen managed the Fred Harvey South Rim concession for TR Services. Transcript

Nash, Roderick "Rod"
Born in Manhattan in 1939, Rod's father took him to Grand Canyon when Rod was 10, and the two took Fred Harvey mules to Phantom Ranch and back. The next year, 1950, his parents sent him to Camp Coconino (near today's Stoneman Lake). Besides overnight horse packing to Flagstaff, the Camp took the kids out for a three night Rim to Rim backpack in Grand Canyon. Rod would later write Wilderness and the American Mind and The Big Drops: Ten Legendary Rapids of the American West. This is a 10 part interview with 4 transcripts completed so far.
